Crescenti added, “Unfortunately, he had injuries that were incompatible with life as a result of his fall, so we had to confirm his death. There was no possibility of resuscitation.”
Pablo Policicchio, spokesperson for the Buenos Aires security ministry, stated that police were called to the hotel shortly after Payne’s fall, responding to reports of an “aggressive man who could be under the influence of drugs or alcohol.”
An initial toxicology report, according to an Argentine official, found traces of cocaine in Payne’s system at the time of his death. However, Andrés Esteban Madrea, who spoke with Payne’s father, Geoff Payne, indicated that further toxicology and histopathological tests are still incomplete, preventing the release of the singer’s body to his family.
His girlfriend, Kate Cassidy, has since shared a heartbreaking letter left to her by her late boyfriend.
Cassidy, who had been with Payne only two days before his death, shared that her heart “is shattered in ways I can’t put into words”.
She also shared photos of a letter written to her by Payne. She wrote:
“I wish you could see the huge impact you’ve had on the world, even as it feels so dark right now,”.
“You brought so much happiness and positivity to everyone – millions of fans, your family, friends, and especially me. You are so incredibly loved.”
She said Payne was her “best friend, and “the love of my life,” adding: “Everyone you touched felt just as special as I did. Your energy was contagious, lighting up every room you walked into.”
“None of this feels real, and I can’t wrap my head around this new reality of not having you here. I’m struggling to figure out how to live in a world without you by my side. Together, we got to be kids again, always finding joy in the smallest things.” she said. “I can’t imagine a day without your laughter and love. You brought so much light into my life.”
As reported by Sky News, a preliminary toxicology report has been provided to local prosecutors, but the results are not considered a full reflection of the drug levels in Payne’s system at the time of his death. The final toxicology results are expected to take several weeks to be completed.
